Who's in The Backroom?

In the back room of a large building located in the west part of the downtown area of Montreal there is a small boutique with big personality, The Backroom. Originally a concept thought up by three bright-eyed fashion students studying at Downtown Montreal’s College LaSalle, The Backroom has evolved into a business. Having just celebrated our one-month anniversary, we are Montreal’s newest underground fashion boutique that specializes in up-cycled clothing, student designs, and vintage.

A little bit about us:

Karen Frith is the creative designer behind it all and is in charge of up-cycling clothing from used clothing stores, as well as designing her own styles for The Backroom’s private label, TBR. As of lately, her detachable collars and crop tops have become the staple item from The Backroom. Firth is born and raised in Quebec, studies Costume Design at LaSalle, and works part time at Chapters.

Rachel Sendi-Mukasa is The Backroom’s financial officer and buyer; otherwise known as ‘the responsible one’. Keeping us on track with work schedules, balance sheets, and contracts, Sendi-Mukasa is businesswoman extraordinaire. As you can tell from the picture, this one’s got brains and beauty and is therefore The Backroom’s model, free of charge ;) Rachel is from Ontario, models part time, and studies Fashion Marketing at LaSalle.

Marie Pike (me!) is in charge of Marketing and Communications for The Backroom, and might I add, I definitely have my work cut out for me considering the location (a backroom). I have taken on the responsibility of the store’s brand image, social networking sites, and events. Originally from Newfoundland, I came to Montreal to study Fashion Marketing at Lasalle and currently work part time at Burgundy Lion as well as operate my own blog, TrendnTune.

Overall, The Backroom encourages new design talent and a green lifestyle. We support our fellow LaSalle students such as V-Franz and Nabila Khalil because their aesthetic fits with our brand and we believe in each one’s vision.

Opened Wednesday through Saturday and available online at www.etsy.com/shop/TheBackroomMTL - Come check us out.
